The PM spoke of these goals at a conference unveiling the plan and the State budget for 2007 which took place in Ha Noi on Jan. 8-9.

Among those tasks, administrative reform must work as a breakthrough for socio-economic development, helping raise GDP growth rate, solidify people's confidence in the Party's leadership and contributing to warding off corruption, the Government leader stressed.

The PM requested ministries, sectors and localities to work together in addressing matters in the fields of education and training, healthcare, the environment, poverty reduction as well as curbing traffic accidents.

He also appealed to ministries and localities to focus on developing rural agriculture and improving living conditions of farmers.

Last year, Viet Nam posted a GDP growth rate of nearly 8.2 percent. This growth also drew a total investment that accounted for 40 percent of GDP and attracted 10.2 billion USD in foreign investment capital. It earned nearly 40 billion USD in export value.

The percentage of poor households in Viet Nam decreased to 19 percent and 1.5 million people were provided with jobs in 2006.
