FDI hits nearly 4 billion in eight months (24/08)

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), since early this year, as many as 421 foreign-invested projects have been licensed to operate in Vietnam with total registered investment capital of US$2.9 billion. The actual number of projects dropped by around 200, but their total capital rose by US$45 million, up 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year,
In the past eight months, 216 operational projects were granted an additional capital of US$105 billion, equivalent to 86 percent compared to the same period last year.
Total newly-granted and additionally increased capital in the reviewed period reached only US$408 billion, down 1 percent from last year.
During the same period, foreign-invested enterprises disbursed US$2.4 billion in investment capital, an annual increase of 10.6 percent or US$2.2 billion.
Vietnam has so far attracted around US$4 billion of capital in the eight months of the year. In August alone, an additional 18 projects have been licensed with total registered capital of US$54 million.
In August, foreign-invested enterprises were expected to earn a turnover of around US$3.1 billion, bringing the total turnover to US$18.3 billion in the first eight months of the year, up 24.7 percent from last year. Meanwhile, export value in the foreign-invested sector is estimated to reach US$9.45 billion, up 37.6 percent. Import value of the enterprises is estimated to reach US$1.55 billion in August, bringing the total import value to US$10.5 billion in eight months, up 22.2 percent. Average capital scale for an investment project stands at around US$7.5 million per project. Among newly-licensed projects, there are some projects with large registered capital including Intel (US$650 million), West Lake Company (US$314.1 million), Winvest Investment Company (US$300 million).
